On this day 57 years ago, thousands gathered to demonstrate in solidarity for equality, and social injustice. The words spoken have left an indelible mark and many have gone on to see how long eternity will be. They are our heroes and sheroes who stood up for the truth! We salute the individuals we are not so familiar with and those who became the face of the Civil Rights Movement of the "’50 and ’60.
It is a sad commentary that we are still fighting systematic racism in various institutions in America and throughout the world. History is repeating itself … strange fruit from the poplar trees has moved to the “Revolution Will be Televised.” The digital age has given us access to the brutal images of racial hatred captured on cellphones, posts on social media, and various news agencies.
This is a time that tries men’s souls. We are still trying to keep our eyes on the prize. We are still on the battlefield every day when we see the ravishes of police brutality and inadequacy in healthcare resulting in higher deaths from COVID. The mantra for “Black Lives Matter” has been a clarion call to address issues we see unfolding under the assault to democracy and human dignity. White privilege doesn’t give one a pass to behave with reckless disregard for humanity.
No matter your race or ethnicity it is time to connect and build community!
Someone reading this post recognizes being tweaked “Repurposed for Divine Destiny.” God can’t bless what America pretends to be.
